Routine Cleanings & Exams
Regular exams allow our team to assess your teeth and gums to diagnose any potential issues and create a custom treatment plan. Dental cleanings clear away plaque and tartar that has collected in areas that are difficult to reach with a toothbrush, which helps prevent tooth decay and gum disease.
Fluoride Treatments
Applying a high concentration of fluoride to the teeth can help strengthen tooth enamel and even reverse very early signs of tooth decay. Fluoride treatments are especially helpful for children, as these treatments can help them have strong, healthy teeth for life, but patients of all ages are welcome to utilize fluoride treatments.
Dental Sealants
Sealants are clear coatings that are applied to the top of each molar to prevent bacteria from building up on the chewing surfaces of the teeth. These areas can be difficult to clean properly, making sealants a very helpful and discreet way to protect the molars from tooth decay.
Gum Care
Our team can help patients who are experiencing mild to moderate gum disease and periodontitis. We offer scaling and root planing services using laser gum treatments that clean the gums very effectively and restore them to a healthy state. We can also apply Arestin® in the gums, an antibiotic that kills bacteria for months after application.
Custom Mouthguards
Athletic Mouthguards
If you or your child participate in athletic activities, a custom athletic mouthguard is a great investment. Custom mouthguards fit comfortably, which makes patients more likely to wear them, and they protect the teeth from dental trauma that could come from being hit in the mouth.
Nightguards
Custom nightguards are frequently used for bruxism, or teeth grinding. Nightguards protect the teeth from damaging each other when the jaw is clenched, which can prevent teeth from being permanently damaged and results in less jaw discomfort in the morning.
Sleep Apnea Appliances
Sleep apnea can be treated with a few different methods, but one of the least invasive and costly solutions is using a custom appliance for sleep apnea. These oral appliances hold the jaw in a comfortable position that keeps the airway open throughout the night.
TMD/TMJ Therapy
TMJ stands for temporomandibular joint, which is the joint under the ear that connects the jaw to the skull. If you frequently experience jaw soreness, headaches, or face, ear, or neck pain, you may have temporomandibular joint disorder, and our team would be happy to help you find the best solution for you.
Dental Sedation
New Columbia Dentistry offers nitrous oxide for patients who are receiving treatments that they are nervous about and patients who routinely experience dental anxiety. A comfortable mask is placed over the nose before treatment begins, and a steady stream of clear, sweet-smelling gas is administered throughout the appointment to keep the patient feeling calm and relaxed. Nitrous oxide is very safe and effective, and the effects wear off a few minutes after the mask is removed.
